I can understand not wanting to volunteer with the Mairie because French is scary. You don’t actually need French to volunteer, but here’s another resource if you want something in English. I have no experience with these groups other than passing the American Church because it’s near my house, I do not condone organized religion, but it was mentioned by other English speakers so I thought I’d drop it for those who want to be sure they will be able to converse exclusively in English:
